Are you living in a country like Nigeria that is not provided with all that a Paypal business account offers or your country is among those that are on PayPal’s “black-list” for reasons best known to them?
You can learn how to open a PayPal business account in Nigeria (or in any other country with restricted PayPal access) and verify the same account safely and easily.
There is no need to change your IP address. Also, you don’t have to use any VPN, fake address, or make some changes to settings. This account would be able to make and receive payments here in Nigeria or in any other country with such limitations or retrictions.
We all know that with PayPal you can achieve your dreams of establishing a global business like dropshipping, making money with Shopify store, and building global brands through online businesses. Restriction has held back many entrepreneurs who wish to engage in legitimate online businesses.
Many countries have been at the receiving end of this “blacklist” and serious-minded business owners and entrepreneurs from such regions have suffered a great deal as a result of such restrictions.
Countries like Nigeria and Ghana were shut out and not allowed to register an account on the PayPal platform not until a few years ago before this ban was lifted. For other countries that are allowed to open a PayPal account, they can only open a personal PayPal account and not a business account.
Paypal has not been upfront about the reasons why some countries are not allowed to open a Paypal Business Account, but our guess is that it is to protect their interest. It is no gainsaying that if there are no security threats, Nigeria is one of the best countries where they can make more money from.
Nonetheless, there is a way to open a Verified PayPal Business Account in Nigeria, Ghana, Zambia, or any country that faces limitations or total restrictions.
WHAT IS A PAYPAL ACCOUNT?
PayPal is a globally recognized and accepted means of payment anywhere in the world.
A PayPal account is an online payment platform owned by PayPal Holding Inc. PayPal is one of the most widely used online payment processors, supporting payment in over 100 countries and over 20 languages and with over 200 million active accounts.
Nigeria used to be among the countries which were denied access to registration, but now it is available for usage, but unfortunately, one still do not have access to its full services.
One of the benefits of using a PayPal account is the simplicity and security you get when you carry out transactions online, without the merchant seeing your local bank account details.
PayPal has two basic types of accounts on its platform, these are PERSONAL and BUSINESS ACCOUNT.
A personal account is for basic personal transactions like simple purchases online, it can’t be used for most business deals, you can only make payments with it but you only receive payments if the person pays from their own PalPay account or bank transfer. If they use a credit card, you cant have such fund in your account.
You can see why most people are not okay with opening this particular account. Every business owner and entrepreneur need full access to be able to work on deals easily.
Many African countries including Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Togo, Tanzania to mention only a few; are only permitted this account. Yet, they wont be able to do much with this PayPal Personal Account.
Besides, what is the essence of using a PayPal account when you can only make payments using your debit card connected to Paypal? The last time I checked, most payment gateways allow customers to process a payment with Visa and MasterCard. In this case, you need a PayPal account that can do it all, especially if you make deals online – receive funds, send funds, pay with your funds and even use your debit/credit card to process transactions when you are short of funds.
The notable advantage a PayPal personal account has is that you can shop without sharing your financial info with the sellers. This is good if you want to keep your financial info private.
A PayPal business account, on the other hand, has all the features that allow you to run your legitimate online businesses, make payments as well as receive payments from your customers.
A few African countries like South Africa, Kenya, Lesotho, Senegal, Morocco, Egypt e.t.c, have full access to both personal and business accounts.
PayPal is an easy and comfortable way to make payments on top e-commerce platforms like Shopify stores, Amazon, Godaddy, Aliexpress, eBay, and other e-commerce platforms.
Now you know what PayPal is, Let me show you how to open a PayPal business account in Nigeria (or any other country with restrictions)
MORE INDEPT INFORMATION ON PAYPAL ACCOUNT
It leaves a sour taste in our mouths when we wake up each day only to realize some countries still do not have the full benefits of a PayPal account.
Developed countries like the USA, UK, Canada, and others won’t experience this as they already have their currency supported.
Paypal, as the majority of people know, is the most popular payment gateway in the world. Its popularity and relevance stretch across Africa, Asians, and other continents. It is now available in about 200 countries and now supports 22 currencies.
The currencies currently supported on business PayPal account are Great Britain Pound, New Zealand Dollar, Philippine Peso, Norwegian Krone, Mexican Peso, Australian Dollar, Swiss Franc, Canadian Dollar, Czech Koruna, Danish Krone, Japanese Yen, Israeli New Shekel, Euro, Hong Kong Dollar, Forint, Taiwan new dollar, Baht, Swedish krona, Singapore dollar, Russian ruble, and Polish zloty.
People do say the major reason why Nigerians and some other countries do not enjoy the full benefits of PayPal business accounts, is because of the high rate of frauds which I find preposterous. There are other developed countries in the world that their PayPal account is limited while some do even have access to PayPal due to their respective countries’ standing rules and regulations.
Does it not surprise you that North Korea has no access to PayPal at all? There is also a great list of countries that can’t use PayPal or have their accounts limited like in the case of Nigeria, Ghana and Zambia. Countries like Sudan, Burma, Belarus, Liberia, Iran, Korea, Syria, Sierra Leone, Balkans, Zimbabwe, Lebanon, and Congo cannot use PayPal.
Irrespective of what anyone thinks, Paypal is yet to give a reason why some countries have their account restricted but not in the case of countries that do not have PayPal support. Paypal put up a vaguely expressed statement for prohibited countries, its reason was that some countries will not be able to enjoy the full functionality of Paypal due to risk that may emerge. It further expressed that sanctions and regulation from the apex institutions in respective countries are also one of the various reasons why some countries do not enjoy the full benefits of the PayPal business account.
Now the trending question is how they can one open a PayPal account that can send and as well receive payment?
Most people find it easier to shop online or sell their wares using the Paypal payment gateway. Hence, the need why most people need an account that can send PayPal funds and as well receive.
WHAT IS PAYPAL ACCOUNT & HOW DOES IT WORK?
Having made a few remarks about PayPal in the introductory aspect of this article, I believe you now have an idea of what PayPal Account is all about.
Not enough? I will need to simplify it yet broad a bit.
A Paypal account is one quick and secure way to pay for goods and services online.
You have done a lot of buying in stores or from merchants where money passed by hands with an exchange of goods or services taking place. The only difference is that this is now done on the internet.
It now makes it easier for e-commerce sites or merchants to earn even when they are in bed. I could wake up in the middle of the night, order an item, and pay using my PayPal. That is how vast technology has gone. I don’t need to wait till a physical office opens in the morning coupled with ever-reliable buyers protection from PayPal.
No hard feeling, you are not satisfied? Open a dispute. Extend to claims if you are unable to find common ground with the seller.

Opening a PayPal that can send and receive funds will be pretty easy as long as you follow the steps I will show you. I will advise you to open a separate email account for the Business PayPal Account. It is to help avoid issues that may occur in the future.
Don’t fidget yet. There are no currently reported cases about any created Verified PayPal Business Account. I was only trying to help you guide against any event that may occur in the future and as well help guide against your official email account. Who knows, one day PayPal might grant full benefits to your country and you need your main email account to be functioning or waiting for an upgrade.
Do note that this is a Lesotho Business Paypal account that can send and receive Paypal fund
Here are the steps you need to create a verified PayPal business account in Nigeria, Ghana, Zambia, or any part of the world. It can be opened on your smartphone or PC.
Step 1 – Alter the PayPal homepage
Go to the PayPal homepage, you will be automatically redirected to the country you are trying to connect from. For example, if you are visiting the site from Nigeria, your browser URL will display www.paypal.com/ng/home. Nigeria uses “ng”, which is the Internet country code top-level domain for Nigeria. We will be using “ls” which is the Internet country code top-level domain for Lesotho.
Lesotho is allowed to operate and use both personal and business accounts on Paypal.
Now change the country’s initial (in this case “ng” to the initial of the country that you are sure to permit the opening of a business account, in this case, “ls” for Lesotho.
If you are unsure, you can use this link https://www.paypal.com/ls/home for the Lesotho homepage and click on “sign up for free”. For united states of america (USA), you will just need to change “ls” to “us”. However, I will advise you to stick with the lesotho PayPal business account because of complications with opening a USA business account.
Step 2 – Choose a PayPal account
The next step is to choose from 2 types of PayPal accounts: Personal Account and Business Account.
Do you want just a PayPal account that only masks your financial information from your sellers or you want a premium PayPal account, as I like to call Paypal Business Account, that accepts payments and also sends invoices, sends funds or receives funds?
I believe you will not want to go through all this trouble if you only want a payal personal account, therefore select “Business Account” and click “Continue”.
Step 3 – Provide your email address
The next step is to provide your email address. I will advise you to open a new email and avoid using your main or business official email.
Also, the email address must not have been used before or associated with any account.
Step 4- Enter your password
Your password must be at least 8 characters. It must also have at least 1 number or symbol. The letters must also contain both upper and lowercase letters.
To protect your account and funds, Paypal always advises users not to use a password that can be easily guessed. For instance, using your other names or date of birth among the letters could put your account at risk.
Although the PayPal platform is very secure you have the most jobs to do if you ever want your account and funds secure.
Step 5 – Tell Paypal about your business
Do not be confused about the title, it is only asking you to provide more information about your business and its various attachments.
Here we go –
- Legal first name: this is the first name on your valid ID card. If your first name on your government issued card is Tom, enter tom as your legal first name.
- Legal last name: last name also means family name or surname. Enter your surname on Legal last name.
- Legal business name: if your business is registered with the official registration organization, the name on it should be your legal name. For instance, Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) takes care of business names in Nigeria. If you have none, you can just create one now.
- Business phone number: the default country code should be that of Lesotho, you will need to change to a Nigeria dialing code. This can be done by clicking the Lesotho flag and then select Nigeria. Nigerian flag is green white green and uses +234. After, you will enter your phone number.
- Business address: the next step is to provide the address of where your business is run. If you have no business address, use your residential address.
- Primary currency: There are lots of currency you can select from but I would advise you to go with the US currency. US dollar has been the currency that most people use for transactions online. It makes it easier for you to understand the rates and all associated charges.
Now that you have filled in all required information, select the box to agree to their terms and conditions, and click “Agree and Continue“.
Important information: do not try to fill in any information from this page after you have clicked, “Agree and Continue”, instead go to your inbox. We will discuss more on that in this next step.
Step 6 – Provide additional information
Paypal would have sent you an email in which you are to click on the link.
Click on the link. The link will take you to a page where you will need to provide additional information about your business.
The hard work has already been done, but you are not done yet with your registration. You will still need to provide additional information.
Additional information about your business is needed which involves confirming if your business is a one-man business, (sole proprietorship or otherwise, the type of services or agencies you run and where it is incorporated.
If it is a one-man business, select, “sole proprietorship”, select associated products or services keywords like advertising, media, or publishing if your business falls under it, and the place of incorporation could be the name of the country you reside.
Always try to change your Lesotho’s country dialing code to your country code anytime you come across it. This is very important.
Submit all requested pages.
Step 7 – confirm your email address
Confirming your email address is another step you should take seriously. This can be done by going to the PayPal home page, scroll down, and tap to confirm the email. A confirmation message will be sent to your inbox which you are to click.
Then your PayPal business account will be officially opened for business.
HOW TO FUND NIGERIA PAYPAL ACCOUNT
Presently, there are very limited ways to fund Nigeria PayPal Account as a result of the restrictions still placed on Nigeria by PayPal, and because the PERSONAL accounts of Nigerians cannot receive any payments.
But fortunately for you, you are not using a PERSONAL account but a fully functional BUSINESS account,
Reach out to someone to just transfer you as little as $2 – $10. You can send the same back as soon as you’ve confirmed receipt that your account is fully functioning that is if you do not intend to keep the fund.
Kindly note that PayPal would be deducting transfer charges, so the total cash transferred to you may not be enough to send back to the person who sent such to you.
Users will also be able to fund their Paypal business account using their debit card. All you need to do is contact your bank and request a visa or Mastercard.
If you run any online businesses online or earn from websites like Fiverr, you can use your PayPal business account to receive funds. People are making money online and you need a Paypal account to receive your funds. Alternatively, you can open a domiciliary account in Nigeria if your clients are abroad.
HOW TO LINK YOUR CARD TO YOUR VERIFIED PAYPAL BUSINESS ACCOUNT
The next item on the table is to verify your PayPal business account. This opens all benefits attached to Paypal business accounts.
If your bank debit card fails you, use a virtual debit card to verify your account as I did. Mine was a gift card from Capterra for reviewing software and in return, I have made over $250 from them. However, most banks’ prepaid cards should work fine.
Before we continue how to link your card, below is how a functional PayPal business account looks like. From the image, you can see that there is no more red alert asking to verify or link your cards.
- To link a debit or credit card, click on “Link and confirm my debit or credit card” located at the bottom of the page.
- Click “Link a credit card”
- Enter your account information – credit card number, select your card type, expiration date, security date, and billing address.
- Click on Link Card. This is how to link to a Paypal account.

Thank you very much for your article on opening a PayPal business account in Nigeria Please I have some questions to ask on the article.
Firstly, can I fill a business name that has not been registered by CAC under the business name section during registration or it must compulsorily be a registered business name.
If it has to be a registered business name and mine isn’t registered, please what do I do.
Secondly, if I am to link my debit or credit card to my PayPal business account, does it have to be the UBA Africard that I will also use for withdrawal or I can use my personal Debit/Credit card, then link the UBA Africard for withdrawal alone?
If I have to fund my PayPal business account, is it the UBA Africard that I will use for the funding or my personal Debit/Credit card?
Thank you very much in anticipation of your response.
Hello Miss/Mrs. Faith, thanks for dropping by. Do note that you can link most cards to your paypal account aside from Africard. Visa cards are known to be used for linking , but do not have the withdrawal options of Africard.
The only advantage that Africard has over others is that it can be used to withdraw your paypal balance to your bank account at the CBN official rate which is normally lower than the rates at the unofficial market.
You can also use any business name, you do not need to have a name registered before using it.
For the funding, you do not need to add funds using your card, when next you need to pay or send money, paypal can debit directly the value from your card
